HEY VIOLET

We imagined this to be like a 70’s-inspired dreamland meets the reality of this isolation. You see Rena lounging on a couch in full over-the-top glam, having gotten dressed up to do absolutely nothing all day.

Hey Violet gifted us with a colorful, free and easy video for “Friends Like This,” a standalone song and a re-introduction to this incredible trio who are finally making the music they love. The song is pure indie-pop bliss and the video is aesthetically wild, bright, and beyond stunning.

The “Friends Like This” music video is essentially a hyperbolized version of what many of us have been doing and feeling during quarantine because of covid. you’ll see glamorized moments of utter boredom (Rena changing the television multiple times but never finding anything good to watch), chaos & confusion (Nia baking bread and pulling it out of the oven only to add that loaf to a huge stack of already-made bread, capturing the stir-craziness we’re all are feeling) and even grappling with being completely out of touch with our loved ones and attempting to find others ways to suffice (Casey in the backyard having a tea party with dolls and stuffed animals).

Maybe it was just us, but it definitely felt like quarantine was never-ending for a while there. We felt like this video was a release for us and hopefully will be for those who watch it, knowing that we’re all in this crappy situation together and finding a little humor in the misery. We could’ve easily made the song and the video much more gritty and angsty, but all we truly wanted was relief from that frustration and we felt like the video’s somewhat comedic take on it all took a little weight off our backs.
